Earlier this month the Sustainable Technologies Business Acceleration Hub ran a 2-day growth workshop - the programme was designed specifically for early stage companies in a growth phase.
The 2-day course was held at the Engine Shed in Bristol and was run by SETsquared - the global no 1 business incubator. Entrepreneurs and SME’s innovating in sustainable technologies or the low carbon sector joined expert coaches and sector specialists for a packed 2-days.
Day one focused on how to turn ideas into a business. The morning sessions looked at the power of ‘why’ and how this question is the driving force behind a business idea. This was followed by discussions and ideas around building a solution.
Over lunch delegates heard from entrepreneur, Ben Cosh who talked about his experiences as an entrepreneur and this gave an opportunity for any questions the delegates had - this session was very motivating for everyone to hear the highs and lows of Ben’s entrepreneurial journey.
The afternoon session was all about identifying and selecting the target market, how to get market share and positioning of the company.
This was then followed by the Peer Review where each delegate had the chance to explain their canvass and to then receive feedback from the other delegates.
After a busy day, a restful evening was required and delegates returned fresh and ready for the second day which focused on the all important question - how to turn a business into money.
The morning sessions looked at how to develop a financial model and understanding revenue, pricing and costs. This was followed by expert advise on how to move your business forward using the learn methodology and the business canvass model.
The final session before lunch covered hints and tips to help successfully pitch and understanding the brief.
Following lunch the delegates worked on finalising their pitches and business plans. Some great pitches and ideas were then presented to the room by each delegate.
The remaining time was spent speeding mentoring where each delegate received expert advice and feedback following their pitching sessions.
All that remained was to announce the winning pitch and thank delegates for their participation and enthusiasm during the interactive 2-day growth workshop.
The next Sustainable Technologies Business Acceleration Hub will take place in Bristol on 17th & 18th October 2019. For further information and to register your place please, visit the webpage, here.
